GERMAN WWI IMPERIAL GERMAN 1889 INFANTRY OFFICERS PRESENTATION SWORD.
An excellent very long sword of the 1889 pattern. Extra detail to the 1889 pattern hilt, more than standard. Prussian eagle, stands of arms and flags to the upper cap area, also floriated to the inside of the bowl with the mirror image of the Prussian eagle on both sides of the bowl. Composition grip undamaged. Grip wire slightly loose. FWR motifs still fitted to the grip. The extremely long double fullered Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co, Solingen manufactured blade with double line presentation script. ‘This sword presented to our retiring comrade Herr Oberstleutnant Bickel from the Officer Korps of the 8th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No.70’. The remainder of the blade having Damascus patterns visible. On the reverse side a central scroll reading ‘1892 to 1898’. Stands of arms and the Regimental insignia of Infantry Regiment No.70. The scabbard is in nickel, generally in good condition with one indentation just below the second hanging ring. Complete with its scabbard throat and fitting screws and double hanging rings. Along the flat back strap of the upper blade the name of the Berlin sword retailer.
