GERMAN WWII PANZER UNIFORMS UNIFORM.

A complete Panzer Leutnant’s uniform comprising of a wrap over jacket and trousers, sold by us some years ago, recently traded back. The tunic is of large proportions is one of the tunics retrieved from the old Soviet Union by the well known North American dealer George Peterson in the early 1990’s. George made many trips to the Soviet Union at the time getting involved in theatrical costumiers and managed to retrieve many items of original German militaria including a quantity of Panzer uniforms. We have seen over the years the photographs of George in Moscow surrounded by these artefacts, they can be identified by the Russian stampings to the inside lining that accompany the original German markings. from the size stampings this is a Berlin 1940 issue tunic, completely free of moth. Very nice high quality black material, early war quality, fitted with a set of slip-on wartime period pink Panzer based shoulder boards that have slight moth, matching pink silk piped collar patches with aluminium skulls, fitted with the early threaded white eagle on black background, loops for two awards. The tunic is full length, we state this as it was quite the fashion for Panzer soldiers men and officers to shorten their jacket by one button’s length, this in our opinion has never affected the value but it is an interesting point of history. All original buttons fitted, no moth damage, the nap is superb. Complete with a magnificent set of matching trousers with their hidden three pronged herringbone belt, standard white cotton lining with profuse but quite indistinct markings. close to the bottom of 1 leg is a 5.5 mm x2.5 mm patch also around the crotch area and slit in the material 19 cm long has been sewn repaired the only theory we have for this repaired slit is that is was done within the Russian film costumiers for battle damage effect in a film , the trousers are the same weight wool as the tunic, , with their original blued buckles to the base of the legs present.
