GERMAN WWII FOREIGN VOLUNTEER OVERSEAS CAP.

A large size M.38 field grey overseas cap, standard configuration, one single air vent. Grey on green Bevo woven national eagle with matching cockade. A run of white inverted V waffenfarbe for infantry. Added to the side of the cap the full circumference is a section of red cording, we have completed intensive research but cannot find and answer for this and the only theory we can come up with are that it is some form of addition for a Foreign Volunteer unit. Two moth holes just to the right hand side of the white waffenfarbe. Some thinness to the nap in place. Stamped size 59 or 60 to the interior with the faint remains of a maker’s ink stamp. Considerable wear shown to the brushed cotton lining, some oxidisation to the interior of the zinc eyelets. A scarce cap.
