GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE HERMANN MEYER VISOR CAP.

A very good example of the Hermann Meyer cap. The Meyer caps were produced in two types of material, the heavyweight grained material and a more lighter weight tropical material, this is the more desirable heavier weight grained material. Minor age staining to the peak and age spots to the rear of the crown. Complete with its lighter weight material protective sun neck flap. There were three different varieties of types of insignia fittings to the Hermann Meyer caps, see pages 308 to 311 of Uniforms & Traditions of the Luftwaffe, Volume 2 by John R. Angolia examples are shown with the Bevo woven insignia fitted in a block pattern to the cap, other examples are the Bevo woven insignia hand stitched and the non Bevo insignia fitted with a single roundel only below the eagle, the example on this cap is the single roundel only with the machine embroidered triangular form cap eagle. Standard leather chinstrap. All of the three buttons holding the neck flap are in position. To the interior the cap is marked size ‘54½’ dated ‘1942’. A good clear makers mark of ‘August Schellenburg, Berlin’ visible to the upper inner red lining. At the right hand side of the front strap the loop that goes over the tropical painted zeltbahn type buttons has split, the chinstrap is wedged only behind that button.
