BRITISH 1918 DATED ANKLE BOOTS.

All of the footwear and trouser wear for all the combatant nations of WWI are extremely difficult to find, most were worn out after the end of hostilities, so to find any boots associated or dated within the time period of WWI is rare. A pair of dark brown verging on black ankle boots, virtually identical to the boots trade pattern shown pages 76 to 79 of the excellent work Campaign 1915. Seven brass lace eyelets, square toe, the stud pattern on the sole and heel are virtually identical to the trade pattern boots shown on page 78. The rivet shown at the end of the three rows of stitching close to the lowest eyelet is missing but the stitch pattern there has been changed as if the rivet has been removed and extra stitches have been applied in that particular spot. Nicely marked to the interior ‘Z18 HM/2’ they are stamped Imperial size ‘8’ the leather is of the typical pigskin variety.
