GERMAN WWII KRIEGSMARINE FEMALE OVERSEAS CAP.
An extremely rare cap of good size either 57 or 58, worn by a Marine Haupthelferin. Standard boat shaped cap with the yellow piping surrounding the whole of the side curtain with the exception of a 2cm section at the reverse of the cap that seems to have been eaten away by a rodent of some form. Slight moth nips to the yellow piping around the front of the cap, with its correct yellow on blue Bevo woven eagle to the lower part of the front. To the left hand side of the cap is a circular section of Navy Blue wool with attached a nice quality fouled anchor with a gold twisted cord edging , two 5.5cm length of tress indicating the rank of Haupthelferin , below the rank lace is a cut in the cap 8 cm in length which has been collector sewn together. To the interior the standard Kriegsmarine style lining, RB numbered with a size that appears to be 58 but is indistinct. An extremely difficult cap to find, never seen before insignia. This has come from a recently acquired over 50 year old collection. It would appear that the ranking system defies official orders, as per page 382 of volume 2 of the excellent work Kriegsmarine Uniforms & Traditions where the rank insignia is described as being in gold, on the same page an image of the naval auxiliaries broach which is a facsimile of the larger size badge on the side of this cap indicating that the wearer may have been a Marine Helferin Auxiliary.
