GERMAN WWII KRIEGSMARINE WHITE TOP DECK CAP.
A lovely condition white top deck cap for a sailor upon the destroyer Diether Von Roeder. Some light staining to the top otherwise excellent condition, no moth damage or undue damage. Complete with its Diether Von Roeder cap tally with the tails at full length and fitted with its two part Kriegsmarine insignia being the separately applied gilded eagle and its national cockade below. The interior sweatband virtually unused condition with the original owner’s name of ‘Petersen’ machine embroidered on white in typical naval fashion applied to the upper inner crown of the naval hat. This particular ship had an interesting history, built in the late 1930’s. At the beginning of WWII the ship was deployed to lay minefields off the German coast but was soon transferred to the Skagerrak, in 1939 it laid mines off the English coast and was used in the invasion of Norway and was crippled by British destroyers during the first battle and eventually had to be scuttled to prevent her capture.
