BRITISH WWI SHROPSHIRE YEOMANRY UNIFORM.

A highly interesting grouping of uniform, equipment and documentation to a warrant officer, 2nd class J.J.Lockley of the Shropshire Yeomanry, comprising his private purchase khaki tunic with a tailor’s label inside of ‘J & R Baird Ladies & Gents Tailors, Oswestry’. (this is a large town in Shropshire ) The tunic, as previously stated is a private purchase tunic but completely modelled on the 02 pattern tunic but without having the double pleats underneath the stand collar, all other features virtually identical. Excellent condition, good nap to the cloth, no moth damage, all fitted brass buttons of the Victorian Crown type of the Shropshire Yeomanry. To each epaulette ‘Shropshire’ with the letter ‘Y’ above. Warrant officer 2nd class crown within a wreath badge to the lower right hand sleeve as the tunic is viewed, also matching badge on the left hand sleeve, above the left hand sleeve badge a horseshoe indicating farrier qualification. The tunic is a good size. Complete with his Sam Browne, which is ‘1915’ dated with cross strap. A set of cased binoculars with his name hand engraved to the binoculars and to the case, closing catch broken. Pistol lanyard. Button cleaner. A mixture of Royal Naval buttons, extra warrant officers badges in brass, Shropshire Yeomanry cap badges, extra farrier badges in a small packet, Accompanied by a small quantity of photographs, which we presume to be of Warrant Officer Lockley, taken we believe in the Middle East. A post war set of medal ribbons for civilian dress showing his entitlement to the British WWI War Medal, Victory Medal, Territorial War Medal and a Territorial Service Medal. One of the photographs identified on the back at a German Hospital on the Mount of Olives. During WWI the Shropshire Yeomanry was incorporated into the Welsh Border Brigade on the 4th August 1914, it moved to Egypt, in March 1916 taking part in the invasion of Palestine in 1917 and May 1918 and later the 2nd and 3rd battles of Gaza, the capture of Beersheba and Jerusalem. In May 1918 it transferred to France as part of the 74th Yeomanry Division going into the line near Merville on the 14th July and was engaged in the 100 days offence leading to the 2nd battle of the Somme. A highly interesting and rare grouping.
