BRITISH WWI AVIATION GROUP.

A very neat small set of items that belonged to an airman during WWI, the airman serving in various stations and keeping a good photographic record. The lot consists of a small photographic album with some excellent shots inside, including photos from ships and from land. There are numerous very good uniform details including cowl helmets and flying leather jackets as well as cut down helmets and numerous orders of dress and many good photos of members of the WRAF in their early Russian blue uniforms. There is a good large station photograph that has a multiplicity of different uniform details within as is in many respects a wonderful textbook cross section of what appeared in the late era following WWI, the picture being dated February 1919. Uniforms within the group show WAAFs in WAAF uniform, WAAC members in their uniforms, officers of both RFC and RAF in khaki, airmen of the RAF, interesting combinations of uniform including an RNAS or RAS medic wearing medic's arm badges and an early black peaked cap. Other details shows officers still in RFC uniform as well as other ranks in RFC uniform. This picture really demonstrates the chaos within uniform regulation at this transitional period. The third item of the grouping is an excellent small postcard size but fairly thick autograph album, this airman was clearly a popular man and numerous people have entered messages, signatures and there are some wonderful caricatures and items of artwork to the interior with some amusing pictures and a very high degree of draftsmanship throughout. A stunning set that very much represents the RAF at the time and an important item of social history.
