GERMAN WWII FRENCH MADE KRIEGSMARINE COASTAL ARTILLERY BADGE.
Somewhat faded gilt. The uniform retaining hook that is normally situated behind the head of the eagle is missing. Complete with its horizontal wide tapering pin, hook and hinge. Since the discovery of the so-called French badges in the 1970’s there has always been controversy about their antecedence. In the superb double volume work The Kriegsmarine Awards Volumes 1 and 2 1st edition published 2011, the authors Sascha Weber and Gehardt R.Skora devote a whole chapter to the French made badges by the Company Bacqueville, the authors have devoted four pages of background text as to the antecedence stories of the history of these badges and their conclusion within the text is that they do not think they are of wartime period production, however they then go on to do an in-depth photographic and size, weight research on every one of the French badges, the question that has to be asked, if they do not believe them in the first place why then go into the in-depth detail they have gone to, this is a question that has to be answered by the individual collector and the price being asked for this item reflects.
