BRITISH 1902 PATTERN CUFF RANK TUNIC.
A good example of the very difficult to find 1902 pattern officers tunic, this is a date that the cuff ranking system was introduced. Standard khaki, four pockets, two upper pockets with pleats, lower pockets bellow type without pleats. One central pleat down the centre of the back of the tunic, central waistband with ticket pocket. Cuff ranking lace to the rank of Captain to both sleeves with intertwined shoulder boards fitted. All of the buttons are of the General Service pattern and all are original to the tunic. One small bit of moth to the lower region of the upper right hand pocket, which has its single closure button missing. Two pinholes to each collar indicating collar badges of a particular regiment. The tunic is with its original Hobson & Sons label, named to a Captain S.H. (the name appears to be Lawson but it is difficult to read). One moth hole to the rear back panel and one to the rear of the right hand sleeve as the tunic is worn, two minor moth nips to the lower left hand sleeve. The tunic is of the lighter weight cloth and has skeletal lining, as if designed for the tropics. The 1902 pattern introduced after the Boer War and based on the close collar pattern of the enlisted ranks 1902 pattern tunic, this was worn right into the First World War by some officers until replaced by the open collar style and subsequently the M.16 tunic without cuff rank.
