HONOUR ARTILLERY COMPANY SABRETACHE.
A magnificent quality sabretache belonging to The Honourable Artillery Company, the unit was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1537 by King Henry VIII, it has fought in countless wars and engagements throughout its history including WWI and WWII. Its current regiment, which forms part of the Army Reserve is the oldest surviving regiment in the British Army and the second most senior. An absolutely full history of the Honourable Artillery Company is available on Wikipedia. This is a classic Victorian style sabretache measuring 28cm at its widest point, red base cloth with the most magnificent typical sabretache quality embroidery to the centre red panel, surmounted by the Guelphic crown, which was a carry over from a Hanoverian Order of Chivalry, followed by a central circlet gold embroidered on blue field with the central silver wire inter-twined logo of ‘HAC’ with a spray of gold wire leaf below. The lace in silver, which is correct for a fundamentally volunteer unit. Three silver suspension rings for the hanging straps, the reverse side having its very high quality red Morocco leather pouch, it is also complete with its maroon lined Morocco leather carrying case. Two slight moth nips to the lower edge of the wool base, also some slight shredding along the base and two other areas of shredding to the lower left hand corner. We would date the period of construction of this sabretache circa 1880 to 1920.
