MANCHESTER CASUALTY TEACHER’S GROUPING.

An exceptional small grouping of documents that in themselves are extremely poignant, they are a certificate of best wishes for a Bombardier J. Halworth East Lancs Royal Field Artillery, a beautiful illuminated document awarded from the Manchester Teachers Association of the National Union of Teachers. The document itself is excellent and in very good order with no rips or tears with a beautifully inked name inscription. The picture itself again is poignant and shows typical Great War propaganda type images, interestingly these images are explained within the letter, which reads ‘Description of card sent to teacher soldiers Easter 1917’, again the reading is very much of the time. There is a National Union of Teachers letter from Brooks Bar Manchester to the soldier, he is addressed as ‘Dear Friend and Colleague’ again dated ‘1917’. There is a very interesting scholars souvenir No.2. sheet of paper, this presumably would be coloured in and cut out by school pupils showing typical patriotic images throughout. There is a coloured postcard of Lord Kitchener from the period and much research has been carried out upon this super grouping. Like to many others Thomas Halworth was a casualty and died on the 28th March 1918 aged 29, he served C Battery 211 Brigade RFA. There is a Commonwealth Graves Commission memorial paper with a photo showing the gravestones. There is research for more than a name showing again details of Bombardier Halworth. Good clear photocopies of the censors of England and Wales. Various Photostats of documents relating to his death and a good copy from the medals roll document listing Halworth. A super talking point and a great centre point to a First World War document collection.
