GERMAN WWI M.18 TRENCH HELMET.

A fine example of the scarce M.18 trench helmet. The apple green exterior finish has dulled considerably with some rust bleed showing through the paintwork. Rivets are all untouched. To the interior the helmet was originally fitted with one white and two tan leather pads, the white and one of the tan pads are complete with their original inner horsehair pads, the third pad appears to have been affected by burning, the leather has hardened and one of the tongues has broken away. The helmet is still complete with its 1918 carbine clip chinstrap but it has broken from the short side, both sections are complete, the spring clip works correctly. The leather in the area of the maker’s mark and the date has solidified and great care needs to be taken with its handling.
