POLISH WWII BANNER.
An interesting and large Polish banner measuring 95cm square, which includes its gold fringe, beautifully embroidered on both sides. On the green silk side the cotton embroidered flags in red and white of Poland overlaid with a central cross of heavy silver bullion wording ‘1905 -– 1945’ with central Polish eagle without crown, with below the motto in Polish ‘FOR OUR FREEDOM AND YOURS’. All surrounded by a heavy bullion gold wreath of leaves. The opposite side embroidered on red silk in silver lettering the motto translated into English ‘UNION OF FIGHTING FOR THE FREEDOM OF DEMOCRACY’ with a matching gold leaf wreath with the town of ‘Katowice’ at the base. All mounted on a very heavy pole surmounted by a nickel eagle, the pole is a two-part pole, which unscrews to the centre, both of the poles are present. Apart from light staining there is no damage or shredding to the silk and everything is of good colour. Unfortunately due to our scant knowledge on Polish items of this nature we cannot offer any further information as to whether this is of a military, civil or political organisation, however anything from this period of Polish origin is scarce.
