GERMAN WWII WAFFEN SS GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD CITATION.
The very scarce pre printed citation A5 size, non folded, non punch holed for the German Cross in gold to a Police Oberst, dated 19th May 1942 awarded to Oberst Borchert of SS Police Schutzen Regiment 3, at this point the 4th SS Police Division was still retaining its Police rank titles before changing to the Waffen SS rank structure. Facsimile General Field Marshall Keitel OKA unit stamp. In May 1944 the 4th SS Police Division was engaged in heavy defensive fighting west of the Tschudowo Novgorod Road on the Northern sector of the Eastern Front near Leningrad. The citation is accompanied by four large format probably Propaganda Company photographs, the first showing Borchert in uniform sitting outside his log built headquarters, a sign on the headquarters states OBERST BORCHERT. A hand written inscription on the back identified it as being in the Wolchow Kessel area during May 1942, so probably at the time he won the German Cross. The second is outside the same building with Borchert and his Adjutant studying a large map, hand written inscription on the back. Third photo is of Borchert and two other in thick winter overcoats loading a sledge. The fourth show Borchert and two others sitting at a table whilst one man sings and the other plays an accordion. A very rare citation.
