ITALIAN/SOUTH AFRICAN WWII FIELD MARSHALL GRAZIANI CAPTURED PAPERS.
An interesting collection of photographs with accompanying documentation for a South African officer who was part of the unit that overran Field Marshall Grazianis headquarters, Graziani himself escaped but many hundreds of documents and photographs remained. The grouping comprises a 17 x 23cm large photograph of Graziani with a facsimile signature at the base, three other postcard size images of Graziani in various situations, but most interesting is a 15 x 10cm hard card with the printed heading in blue of the Field Marshall, this card was used by Company Quartermaster Sergeant Taylor as part of the South African 1st Infantry Brigade who sent it home to Durban on the 24.3.1941, he writes to his brother I suppose you will be thinking all manor of things against me but by now you will understand why I have been so shy in replying. I am enclosing a few assorted photographs, refer to the one bearing the portrait of an officer sitting in the chair with the radio set in the background where he was captured by us in Gelib, the rest are various studies. I shall write to you a little later when I have more time to spare.? There is an accompanying non-filled in similar card. Recently acquired by us from South Africa, an interesting historical item.
