GERMAN WWII WAFFEN SS INFANTRY OFFICERS SHOULDER BOARDS.

An excellent set of combat used shoulder boards that has seen a huge amount of service use. Standard black wool underlay with white intermediate colour for infantry. Subdued wartime bullion lace to the exterior. The tips of each shoulder board has worn through the outer material exposing the steel interior, this always happens on German tunics that have been heavily used. The tip of the shoulder board rubs against the stand collar of the tunic. These boards were originally issued as stitch-ins but have been converted by the officer by the addition of a small slip of cloth added to the underside of the boards, these slip-on tabs which have also been added have since been removed. They were originally issued whilst the officer was the rank of Untersturmfuhrer without rank pips and he has been gradually promoted in the field firstly to Obersturmfuhrer and then Hauptsturmfuhrer. There are differences in the two sets of gold rank pips to the boards. Oxidisation around the buttonhole where the aluminium button has rubbed against the bullion for all the period of service. A great well used set.
