ROYAL SCOTS 1881 PATTERN BLUE CLOTH HELMET.
A very nice condition blue cloth over cork 1881 pattern Home Service helmet for an officer in the Royal Scots, one of the premier Scottish regiments. The blue cloth covering is totally free of any moth, all the leather trim on the rear lobster tail area of the helmet is intact, the stitching undamaged, the front peak trim in gilded brass intact, which matches the slightly subdued gilding of the back strap, spike and cruciform spike base, chin chain and large front starburst Victorian crown plate. Behind the central white metal circlet is the green enamel of the Royal Scots with the scroll below, which reads ‘The Royal Scots’. The leather backing to the chin chain all intact with some stitches loose. To the interior light cream grained Morocco leather sweatband all in place with the remains only around the lower edge of the inner officers silk. The green lining to the front and back peaks all secure and bright.
