GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE OBSERVERS BADGE BY ASSMANN.

A very nice quality Luftwaffe Observers Badge, toning to the high spots of the silvered wreath, much of the original silvered finish remaining in the lower field. All of the black patination to the observer eagle in place. Two quite large domed rivets, thick needle pin, original hook, pin and hinge. Maker marked ‘Assmann’ on the reverse side of the observer style eagle. The award was apparently awarded to Oberleutnant Werner Schroder, he served during the campaign in Poland and was shot down over Crete, as a result he lost a leg and had to recover in hospital in Munich, he served the rest of the war in Germany as a reserve officer. The badge was part of a grouping of items recently sold by the family of Oberleutnant Schroder.
