GERMAN HESSE REGIMENT 115 PICKELHAUBE.
An unusual pickelhaube from the State of Hesse being a pre 1871 model form with all of its correct fittings in brass with its unique style Hesse fluted removable spike. Standard Hessian front plate. The leather skull is superb, both of the peaks firmly attached to the main body, the rear peak to the right is slightly deformed. Just above the Hessian plate to the right and to the left are two depot repair shop filled holes, this undoubtedly would have been where the 1621 scroll was introduced in December 1871, the helmet has then been reissued to an identified Jager Regiment, the faint markings of which remain to the right hand side of the rear peak in the area where unfortunately it is congealed and very dark, the ink block tht holds these markings is long indicating that the last three digits which cannot be seen would either be Reserve 115 or another Hessian number, such as 117 or 118, this would have been done after 1894, the left hand side of the rear peak is marked ‘J.R.115 1894’, at the time of the change to the Reserve Infantry ( or another Hessian ) Regiment the 1621 scroll would have been removed. Its 10 tongued leather liner all intact with its original leather drawstring. Between the two plate attachment bolts is the remains of where the original Hesse 115 wearer’s name label was situated. The helmet is also with its correct national and red and white Hessian cockade and original chinstrap.
