PRE 1914 BRITISH MARTINI HENRY RIFLE.

A superb condition Martini Henry rifle, the classic rifle used by the British Army at Rorke’s Drift and other actions of the late 1800’s. Most of the examples available today are in poor condition and restored, they have either been in Nepalese arsenals or other ordnance locations over many years, this appears to be very close to being a museum example. The wood excellent overall with some evidence of bruising, brass disc to the butt, ordnance circular stamp also in the same area. Two markings, which would appear to be Victoria Government markings indicating this has at some time been in Australia, numbered to the butt stock ‘10321’. The weapon is with both of its three sling swivels, one at the end of the butt, one under trigger and one to the end of the forestock, its original rammer, bayonet lug. The metallic parts being the frame and the barrel in superb condition with all original browning intact. Double ‘Out of Service WD’ stamps to the frame, the main markings being crown over ‘VR Enfield 1878’ one year before Rorke’s Drift. Ladder sight excellent. The barrel has profuse Victorian proof markings. The bore is good. A magnificent example.
