GERMAN WWI BAVARIAN GREATCOAT.
A nice example of the scarce early pattern Bavarian greatcoat without barrel cuffs. Plain steel grey overall, the nap to the cloth is thin, colour good, some fading around the collar. The only evident moth is close to the second buttonhole with one moth hole to the upper right shoulder, the remainder of the garment amazingly moth free, greatcoats are extremely susceptible to moth damage. Five of the six domed closure buttons remain. Some minor discolouration and stains. Evidence of the shoulder board apertures being sewn closed indicating this was used post war as a standard overcoat The adjustable cuff tabs are still in place within the cuff with the outer buttons present. Standard two lower angled pockets with flaps. Nicely marked to the interior with a large ‘B.A.I’ indicating the 1st Bavarian Army Corps with large date ‘1916’, regimentally marked in a further block ‘2.I.R.’ (2nd Infantry Regiment) with a maker’s oval stamp also to the interior pocket bag.
