GERMAN WWI EAST ASIA COLONIAL COMMEMORATIVE SILK.
Soldiers and sailors of all of the nations that had their base in China and other parts of Asia had silk panels of varying sizes and quality constructed for them whilst they were in the occupation areas, the best are always the panels from China. This is a highly impressive huge size panel measuring 96 x 63cm, laid into a frame possibly from the 1940’s or 50’s. The images say it all, the quality is just superb, these silks must have taken hundreds of hours to construct. This example carried out for a seaman of Marine Artillery in Kiautschow, China. There is a panel in the centre normally for a photograph of the recipient of the silk, in this case there is no photograph. The banner across the top of the wonderful design reads ‘In memory of my service time Tsingtau China 1912-1915’. The depth of the eagle alone is highly impressive. These silks make terrific backdrops for Imperial Naval displays. For shipping we would possibly have to remove it from its frame and it can be sent in a tube. please note the helmet shown in the final images is for size perspective
