GERMAN WWI PRUSSIAN TIN PICKELHAUBE.

When the leather shortages in WWI began pickelhaube manufacturers started to use many other forms of materials to construct the pickelhaube to include felt, compressed paper, cork and tin, most of the tin helmets were produced by the ex tin toy manufacturers such as Bing & Company. This example is a very good helmet, undented skull, which retains all of its original black finish, front and back peaks good, all the fittings match in colour, standard Prussian plate, chinstrap with standard brass buckles and excellent condition national and State cockades. To the interior the upper inner skulls of the helmets were always lined in a pressed felt which can sometimes suffer from moth damage which in this thankfully not. the 9 tongued liner again all complete, undamaged without any tongues broken.
