GERMAN WWI SAXON OFFICERS PICKELHAUBE.
A superb condition wartime produced all fibre pickelhaube in the classic Saxon shape. The skull is absolutely perfect, front and rear peaks firmly attached to the main body, slightly subdued gilt to all of the fittings with its typically long sharp Saxon peak, flat infantry chin scales, gilded front peak trim. The helmet is fitted with the national and State cockades normally encountered worn by Saxon officers, also sometimes worn by Hessian officers without the pointed edge. To the interior is a good condition leather sweatband with its original green silk inner liner. Original owner’s label to the interior would appear to be to an Oberstleutnant with other identifying letters, which are indecipherable. Some light restoration to the red inner lining at the inner rear of the peak. A small feature which very few people notice, the shape of Saxon officers pickelhaubes are of a different side profile than most other States officers helmets.
