GERMAN WW11 LUFTWAFFE SCHELLENBAUM FLAG.

The famous flag known as the Schellenbaum flag, these were carried within the jaws
of the eagle that surmounted the Luftwaffe Schellenbaum. The complete Schellenbaum device was carried in the forefront of every Luftwaffe and Army and Navy band, they were produced in Luftwaffe flight yellow, as this example, also in flak red and although we have never seen one presumably signals brown. This example is in excellent condition, the yellow colour is slightly dusty through age, we do not believe this has been in the hands of a collection. The central large wide winged Luftwaffe eagle on a complete circle of laurel leaves in the most magnificent condition, the highest quality of hand embroidery in Germany at that time. Black hand embroidered swastikas to each White ray. On the reverse side the airfield at Stade embroidered again in heavy bullion Fliegerhorst Kommandantur Stade. The flag still has its carrying bar, it is attached to the carrying bar by white/cream leather, which is in excellent order with some age foxing, its original wire woven hanging suspension with its internal ring for placing within the jaws of the eagle. All of the bullion fringing on both sides is absolutely complete. The Air Force base Stade was situated 200 north west of Berlin in Lower Saxony and was opened in 1935.
