GERMAN WWI 4TH PATTERN BODY ARMOUR WITH M.17 HELMET AND ARMOURED SHIELD.
A fabulous grouping of the complete set of the last pattern body armour, all the four items are from the well known Michael Baldwin collection. The 4th pattern body armour is shown photographed on six pages, 108, 109, 110,111, 112, & 113 of Feldzug 1918. After Michael’s passing the body armour was sold, which we have just repurchased, in the interim period the lower left hand felt pad seen clearly in the photographs that holds the bottom and the neck plate apart from each other has come adrift from its canvas strapping, fortunately this is now attached to the rear of the armoured plate in a manner that it cannot be lost and could be reattached to the canvas strap, we have also added wire between each separate plate, four in total, to take the weight off the original canvas straps. A most superb set of body armour. Accompanied by a matching colour M.17 trench helmet, complete with its white leather three pad liner, each of the pads having their own inner horse hair pad remaining. Size SL62, with its original strap with field grey buckles. Marked ‘AK’ with an ink stamp to the inner rear skirt. Minor abrasions to the paint finish. Fitted to the helmet is a matching painted front plate with stamp number ‘112’ into the rear, the significance of these numbers is not known. The brow plate is with its leather strap with double rivets. This magnificent example of a trench armoured set from a great collection.
