BRITISH WWII CATERPILLAR CLUB BADGE.

A very famous award being a purely unofficial award allowing aviators to wear this badge and become a member of the Caterpillar Club. It was presented generally to Royal Air Force and allied personnel who had bailed out successfully wearing an Irvin parachute made by the Irvin Air Shute Company. The recipient’s name was engraved on the reverse. This particular badge was awarded to a Sergeant W. Ward, produced in 18 carat gold, length of 19mm only, its red ruby eyes are intact and it is fitted into its original presentation box, on opening the lid, printed to upper inner lid area ‘Presented by Irving Air Shoot of Great Britain Limited’ ( note different spelling than the company name )and on the base the maker’s name of the famous Royal jewellers ‘Mappin & Webb Limited’ being engraved with the recipients name, further research on this aviator should be possible.
