ENGLISH 1803 PATTERN LIGHT INFANTRY OFFICERS SWORD.
A very nice example of the 1803 infantry officers sword, its 72.5cm curved blade in excellent condition, slight toning to the steel on the lower half of the blade, the upper portion of the blade which measures 38cm has its double sided blued and gilt panel. Much of the original blue finish is visible, the gilding is thin in places but still extremely visible. Complete with its floriated patterns, Georgian Coat of Arms, Stand of Arms, the Georgian crown over ‘GR’, its 1803 pattern hilt having the extra addition of a Light Infantry bugle horn over the crown and intertwined ‘GR’. The grip ray skin good with its original grip wire with a couple of loose pieces present. Lion’s head pommel, complete with its portapee ring. Traces of good gilt to the hilt. All complete in its totally original scabbard with all the gilt to the three fittings matching the quality of the gilt to the hilt. The leather is original, it has not been replaced, these early pattern leather swords are extremely susceptible to the leather rot and invariably are cracked or broken and/or repaired, this is untouched. Overall length of the sword 91cm.
