IMPERIAL GERMAN 1862/67 MODEL GUARD DU CORPS ENLISTED RANKS HELMET.

An extremely nice condition enlisted mans helmet of the 1862/1867 model. All brass skull in fabulous condition, minor ripples, an ordnance soldered repair to the raised rib that runs from the back side of the eagle down to the start of the lobster tail. Standard Prussian Guard front plate with central black Guard eagle. The helmet has all of its edge trim in white metal and all of its raised white metal rivetts for the rear lobster tail. Front stepped peak, maker stamped underneath the front peak ‘Jaeger’ and stamped ‘G.D.C.5.C’ underneath the Prussian State large size cockade. The helmet is with both its Prussian and national cockades, some paint loss to the State cockade. Surmounted with its Guard Du Corps eagle, the wings have been slightly squashed together, there are hardly any Guard Du Corps enlisted mans helmets on the open market that have not been restored either at the time by ordnance depots or by later collectors. With its original very skeletal style of crown. Evidence of a repair to the Guard Du Corps eagle as the helmet is viewed from the back, the seam between the right hand wing of the main body has been solder repaired with minor indentation to the tip of the wing and to the upper neck of the eagle. However the helmet has no extra holes to the main body or behind the front plate. Correct large size domed Cuirassier style chin scales with all leather interior fitted. The liner is intact, which has had some restoration.
