GERMAN WWII AFRIKA KORPS M.40 ARTILLERY CAP.

A stunning text book example of the German Afrika Korps 1st model M40 field cap. The material used is the stiff type, olive drab tropical material. The cap does not crumble when upturned. The interior has the correct red lining with black ink size stamp 54 and the clear makers stamp for Frankenstein. The insignia applied to the front is the tropical bevo woven 1st pattern eagle and roundel, applied in the correct manner in which the Frankenstein factory applied all their insignia, being both eagle and roundel, hand tacked to the cap, the red (artillery) inverted V soutache is also applied in the correct Frankenstein method, being tightly machine stitched to the cap and then entering the body of the cap, right upon the base stitch line. The interior brow area shows a few areas of grime suggesting light use in the the field. All 4 air vents still retain their original enamel olive paint. Although a small size this is a superb example of an untouched, text book classic Afrika Korps cap, interestingly this item was recently found in a clothing recycle centre in the UK.
