GERMAN WWII SS OFFICERS CRUSHER CAP.

An ultra rare crusher cap for an SS officer. Originally produced as a crusher cap the officer has added cap cords to the cap, which he or a further wearer subsequently removed. The cap has lain flat for many years and has lain in damp conditions, however there is no moth damage to the cap. Field grey captured Italian style material to the main body, standard black velvet centre band, white waffenfarbe overall. The waffenfarbe has discoloured and stained in the areas that have been exposed to light, where the cap has lain flat the waffenfarbe at the upper side of the black velvet band has stayed clear and white. One hole either side a few millimetres back from the edge of the peak where the original cord buttons were fitted and a clear impression on the soft fibre peak on both sides where the cap cord had lain. To the interior issue quality lining very similar as used on M.36 tunics. Stamped size ‘56’. The mid tan leather sweatband is complete but has discoloured through damp staining. In the area on the black velvet centre band where the original cord buttons were fitted there is much green oxidisation on the interior material behind the leather sweatband. The cap is fitted with its SS skull and with an army eagle, as can be seen in many period images. The semi card material that lays behind the back velvet centre band has distorted in places due to dampness. An iconic looking cap.
