GERMAN WWI M.18 EAR CUT OUT HELMET.
A very nice example of the late war M.18 ear cut out helmet. All of these shells as is well known was stamped ‘ET64’, this has clear markings, it retains much of its original apple green finish with some rust bleed through the paintwork. This helmet can be clearly seen on the back cover, along with a Gaede helmet, of the excellent work by Oliver Lock, recently published by Military Mode Publishing entitled Stahlschutzhelme, The German Steel Combat Helmet 1915 to 1918. It is complete with its three pad light cream liner, one tongue is missing from one of the pads, the other tongues are present but frail. Two of the three pad sections have their inner horse hair padding complete, one is missing. The helmet is complete with its original carbine type chinstrap. Faint traces of a manufacturer’s stamping on the large leather tab underneath the carbine clip. The helmet also has the remains of its rubber ‘AK’ ink stamping into the rear inner skirt. A fabulous example.
