BRITISH ROYAL NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS OFFICERS FOREIGN SERVICE HELMET.

An extremely evocative formerly produced as a white helmet, re-coloured for field service use by the owner officer. Mid 1870’s style cork helmet, which has been coloured khaki over its original white, fitted with a high quality khaki pagri wrap. The helmet still has its dress spike and acorn and leaf work decorative base, which matches its high quality Royal Northumberland Fusiliers officers grenade badge fitted, both the grenade badge and the spike and spike base match in colour, which both have subdued gilt either through age or through nicotine. Standard home service helmet chin chain with officers leather backing. The interior of the helmet all lined in lightweight green brushed cotton, standard leather sweatband, which has evidence of wear use. Large size helmet. Some minor damage to the cork underneath the cloth covering of the front peak, the helmet shell itself being of four panel canvas, the main shell is undamaged. The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers were involved in the Indian Mutiny, the Anglo Afghan War of 1880 and the Second Boer War.
