GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE FIELD DIVISION CAMOUFLAGE CAP.

A very rare locally unit made M.43 peaked field cap. As collectors are well aware this form of cap has been produced in untold numbers since WWII out of zeltbahn material, this example is also constructed from zeltbahn material but is without doubt of WWII manufacture. The line of green stitching around the front peak has rotted in places. The cap is fitted with a two-piece Luftwaffe grey on Luftwaffe blue grey backing with a Luftwaffe national roundel below. The wear to the interior of the cap cannot be replicated. The cap is possibly size 56. One of our tests that we have developed over many years with M.43 caps, apart from visual experience, is to invert the cap onto its crown to see whether the cap collapses or not, this example certainly does not collapse, the collapsing or not is due to the sweat of the wearer partially solidifying the material enabling it to stand firm when inverted.
