IMPERIAL GERMAN ERSATZ TORNISTER.

A rare example of a cardboard tornister issued to an Imperial German soldier. The box tornister made completely from cardboard with leather straps, fittings and a leather back cushion. Both the straps complete, faint traces of an Army Corps marking to one of the straps plus a maker's stamp, an indistinct 1917 date. All the internal fittings and bags made from the russet brown canvas, hand painted into the inner lid of the tornister is the owner's name and address in 'Tempelhof Berlin'. A rare piece of ersatz equipment for the Imperial German soldier.
