GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE NIGHT FIGHTER PILOT?S GROUPING.

An exceptionally rare grouping of a Pilot?s Luftwaffe log book for a pilot in Night Fighter Geschwader 3. The early type Luftwaffe flight book with the gold embossed Luftwaffe eagle and swastika to the cover with his name gold embossed to the lower right hand side. The logbook begins on the 11th August 1941 and with entries through to the 3rd May 1945, the total of a remarkable 1,065 flights, which include 19 combat flights, the last on the 2nd May 1945 in a JU88. All of these are over western and central Germany, the Ruhr, Berlin, Dortmund, all in ME110?s or JU88?s. He appeared to have had one combat victory when flying an ME110 during his 8th combat flight on the 29th July 1944, he shot down an aircraft over Helgoland. In the logbook he does not mention the type of aircraft shot down. Citations include the standard A5 size citation for the Luftwaffe Pilot?s Badge, dated ?January 43? with facsimile signature of Luftwaffe General Lorentz, folded once, punch holed for filing. The A5 size citation of the Iron Cross 2nd class, dated ?2nd August 1944? probably for his 29th July victory, with the ink signature of General Major Max Ibel, non folded, punch holed for filing. The beautifully coloured A5 size card with the insignia of the Night Fighter Geschwaders. A document dated ?11th July 1945? stating that his full entitlement for awards was for the Iron Cross 2nd class and the bronze Night Fighter clasp with issue unit stamp, without swastika, pencil signature of a Staff Officer. Four other documents all dated ?44? and after the war in ?45? with relation to his war service and a highly interesting note stating that he had been tried by a field court martial for damaging an aircraft and was sentenced to four weeks of serious detention, this is an English translation. A very highly desirable grouping to a elite Night Fighter Unit.
