GERMAN WWI PRUSSIAN GUARD NCO's PICKELHAUBE.
A good upper medium size all leather skull pickelhaube for a Guard NCO. The skull, which although not size marked is possibly size 55 or 56, it is in good condition with only minor crazing. Some congealing and light distortion to the shape of the rear back peak, which is securely attached to the main body. Front peak also with some congealing and firmly attached. All of the fittings, which include the back strap, removable spike and circular spike base, large Guard front plate with its nickel overlay Guard Star, flat front chin scales indicating Guard Infantry, front peak trim all match in good colour. The cockades are of a Prussian NCO's quality, double constructed, both the national and the State cockade. To the interior the nine tongue leather liner is all intact with excellent good light tan colour to the inner skull. To the inner rear peak are faint traces of two separate original owners names have been hand inscribed to the leather with the ink rubber markings of either 'K.A.R.' or 'F.A.R.' which in simple terms would indicate an artillery regiment of the Guard but without doubt the spike and the circular spike base are original to the helmet. The front large Guard plate has virtually welded itself to the leather body, therefore it cannot be an artillery regiment helmet and the designation K.A.R. or F.A.R. have another unknown at present meaning.
