IMPERIAL GERMAN PAPER CLOTH COLONIAL OR TROPICAL OFFICERS VISOR CAP.
Possibly the rarest piece of German Colonial or tropical headdress we have ever had in stock is an ersatz produced paper cloth officers visor cap, as the war progressed and materials became scarce many items of the Imperial German equipment and clothing began to be made in substitute materials and many in reconstituted paper. This fabulous example is maker stamped and clearly dated 1916 to the inner crown is in the most magnificent condition, the whole cap with the exception of the ersatz sweatband is constructed in paper cloth including the chinstrap. Two side buttons of standard form constructed in bone with its single cockade fitted to the centre band. The size is possibly a 56 or 57 and there is no damage to the headdress in any form. Its rarity is extenuated by fact that there is not even an example in the excellent work German Colonial Troops from 1889 to 1918 by Jurgen Kraus and Thomas Muller.
