GERMAN WWII FULL ERNST ROHM DEDICATION SS MANS DAGGER.
A very nice Gottlieb Hammesfahr produced SS mans dagger with the full unaltered and non erased Ernst Rohm dedicated description. The blade at some stage in its life has been re-tipped and consequently it is 6mm shorter than the standard length. All of the fittings are of the heavy nickel quality. The lower cross guard is marked Roman numeral group ‘III’ as all of the Hammesfahr produced daggers are. The wood grip is the standard Hammesfahr style with the SS runic symbol facing in the vertical style. Correct heavy nickel tang closure nut. Minor abrasions to the wood grip. Original anodised scabbard having virtually all of the anodising intact. A single dent in the ball at the lower scabbard mount. All original screws intact. The upper scabbard mount has two splits in it, one in the area between the screw and the scabbard throat, the other between the loop for the hanging ring and the base of the mount. The daggers with the Ernst Rohm inscription are far more difficult to obtain than the equivalent with the Himmler inscription. On the death of Rohm an official order was sent out to remove his name from the dagger, this was generally adhered to, but here we have an example of one that slipped through the net. It is estimated there were 9,900 of these daggers awarded, how many that are left with the full inscription is unknown, they must be very difficult to obtain. We fortunately have been able to purchase two from the same collector recently.
