GERMAN WWI BAVARIAN PIONEER BATTALION PICKELHAUBE & COVER.
A sleepy all leather pickelhaube for an enlisted man in a Bavarian Pioneer Battalion. The skull in excellent condition with light crazing and congealing overall, both peaks securely attached to the main body. All of the trim, which includes the back strap, non removable spike, circular spike base, front plate and front peak trim, strap fittings all in white metal for pioneers. Complete with its correct national and Bavarian State cockade, a small section of the State cockade has broken away. The leather chinstrap is good with its white metal buckles. To the interior the original owner’s name is hand inscribed to the back peak. Faint traces of size markings but difficult to read, the helmet is probably size 54 or 55. All of the tongues present to the 9 tongue leather liner, some splits to the eyeholes to the tongues, which the drawstring passes through and complete with its rare ‘Pioneer Battalion’ marked field cover, the cover is marked ‘BP’ within a rectangle in a slightly greener shade of material than normally encountered, complete with all its fitting hooks, ex Michael Baldwin Collection.
