GERMAN WWI AVIATION AND AIR BALOON PHOTO ALBUM.

A fabulous album containing 183 images, starting in WWI with images of the pilot sitting in his single wing monoplane carrying his flying helmet. Another Sanke card of Otto Stiefvater and Jeannin-Stahltaub at the Johannisthal Flying School, which is pen signed and dated '1913'. Men and vehicles of the Feldflieger Abteilung 47 standing next to one of their vehicles with the unit markings clearly showing on the vehicle. Many more images of mechanics standing next to their machines. Aviators standing in their cockpits of their machines posing for the camera. Crashed aircraft in the snow. Air to air shots of First War machines. Uniforms with flying distinction badges being shown. Observation balloons being erected with Iron Crosses on the balloons. Air to ground shots. A wonderful large size format image of an Imperial German aviator wearing a full length cross over flying suit wearing a visor cap carrying his classic German flying helmet. Images of a military style funeral in the Reichswher Period. All of the men wearing the M.16 trench helmets. A very interesting shot of a group of men at a party, we presume they may be members of a Reichswher Flying Unit, they are all wearing winged propeller collar insignia and one with Imperial German Flying Badge at his breast. More group images of the same unit with more Imperial badges in evidence. One shot of all the officers and men sitting together with a background notice on the wall 'Flugwache Adlershof'. More shots of different groups of officers and men in this flying unit. The album then moves onto ballooning where the officers and men are wearing police style uniforms, one with an armband clearly marked 'Luftfahrt' with a propeller below, followed by the letters 'Uberwachung' with great detail close-up shots of wickerwork baskets loaded with men about to embark on a balloon flight. A highly detailed and interesting album charting aviation, mainly German, between WWI and the middle 1930's.
