A very beautiful and delicate midshipman’s dirk of the curved style. Overall length with scabbard 23.5cm, blade length 15cm. One of the most common problems encountered with any midshipman’s dirk of the Georgian period is the missing blue and gilt to the blade, this is a very fine example of a blade with virtually all of its blue and definitely all of its gilt present. The blade has very minor spots of corrosion, there is no distortion or reprofiling of the blade, the point is fine and the gilt set against the blue is superb. The gilding to the cross guard, which is in a form of leaves with acorn heads, with one crack to the reverse side with its scabbard having virtually all original gilding present, both its hanging rings and totally undented. A fine example of a Georgian midshipmans dirk.
