BRITISH WWI SNIPER/CRAWLER SUIT.
A rare piece of WWI British field uniform kit being the all in one overall style sniper/crawler suit issued late in WWI to British snipers, this one piece semi rubberised Gabardine suit which is worn with the tied section, the buckle section and the pocket section to the rear of the wearer enabling the suit to be worn with the front completely free of any obstructions to catch or snag on obstructions whilst the sniper is in the prone and crawling position. The suit is in unissued condition, there appears to be one repair across the upper left leg section as the garment is viewed from the rear, which maybe an out of British service slash to the material. There are also stitch repairs to the buckle and strap adjuster, apart from that the item is faultless, even with its original tied string through the 9 sets of eyelets. Large stamp to the interior WD number over letter. ‘Goldstone, Davies & Company Limited 1918 Manchester’ with a sizing stamp number ‘2’. Quite often when these suits were issued the individual sniper has painted them with camouflage.
