GERMAN WWII SONDER BATTALION DIRLEWANGER PAPER GROUPING.
A rare pair of citations, Iron Cross 2nd class semi hard card, once folded, punch-holed for filing pre printed citation awarded to Rottenfuhrer Johann Denk, marked ‘SS-SDR.BATL.DIRLEWANGER’, award date ‘9th December 1943’ with a good clear rubber ink stamp of the Higher SS and Police Leader of Russland Mitte with long signature of SS Standartenfuhrer Lammerding, Commander of Kampf Gruppe Gottberg, this citation may relate to the Battalion’s attack on regular Soviet forces near the Kosari Front 13th November 1943. Accompanied by a lighter weight paper A5 size citation, folded once, punch-holed for filing to the same recipient but not unit marked just using the feldpost number of ‘00512’, rubber ink stamp of the same feldpost number, award date ‘23rd February 1944’ with the ink signature of the infamous Obersturmbannfuhrer Dirlewanger. This citation possibly relates to the Soviet attacks around Lake Beresno. Accompanied by a postcard size photograph of the recipient in uniform wearing his blank collar patches and the ribbon to the Iron Cross 2nd class.
