GERMAN WWII ALLGEMEINE SS EM/NCO VISOR CAP.
A generally good condition Allgemeine SS enlisted mans/nco’s visor cap, non size stamped but on test we estimate a size 56 constructed in the most commonly encountered black ribbed material, a lovely form to the cap. No moth damage to anywhere on the main body however some degrading of the white waffenfarbe just above the eagle and to the right of the eagle as the cap is worn with some light moth damage at the very rear of the cap on the bottom edge, these are identified by our web site images. A good matched pair of eagle and skull totally original to the cap with its correct double buckle with centre join chinstrap. Some minor age lines through the black exterior of the visor. On inverting the cap the dark tan leather sweatband is all complete with evidence of wear use, which has changed the colour slightly of the sweatband mainly in the rear half of the band. The interior crown is lined in the waterproof russet brown material, the remainder of the interior of the cap is lined in the russet brown/maroon heavy brushed cotton. The gold runic double SS symbol is visible through the lozenge, which has a crack across the runes, the original SS silk label all in place below the lozenge. The early white on black tuchmutze label is with the cap but not attached by stitches, it is loose from the interior band. On lowering the sweatband there is evidence that a sponge cushion was in place for many years, this has solidified and broken away in the forehead area. The interior of the band is profusely stamped with a whole series of rectangular blocks of stampings, which include two sets of identical stampings, both which include the date of ‘1938’ and also an SS unit stamp, plus a further ‘VA1938’ stamping. The visor to the interior has its correct ‘RZM SS’ rubber stamping. A very atmospheric cap with some minor degrading to the waffenfarbe.
