IMPERIAL GERMAN SAXON ENLISTED MANS PICKELHAUBE.
A very nice and clean condition size 55 all leather pickelhaube for a Saxon infantryman. The skull is excellent, very minor crazing, some light congealing to the front and back peaks, both peaks securely attached to the main body. All of the fittings, which include the back strap, non removable spike, circular spike base, starburst front Saxon plate with nickel Saxon Coat of Arms overlay, brass front trim, strap fittings all match in colour. Two kinks to the inside of the front peak trim. Fitted with its serrated edge Reich cockade and smooth edge Saxon green and silver cockade. The interior ten tongued liner all complete and undamaged, complete with its original leather drawstring. Army Corps marked ‘B.A.XII’ with the date ‘14’. A super condition helmet, faint traces of the original markings to the interior skull. The circular metal plate that quite often sits underneath the circular spike base has been missing for many years, the green verdigris to the split pins for the domes after many years of being in place in brass has reacted against the leather of the skull. Being marked to the 12th Army Corps narrow the choice of regiments to the Leib Grenadier Regiment 100, 2nd Saxon Grenadier Regiment 101, Saxon Infantry Regiment 102 and Saxon Infantry Regiment 103.
