BRITISH WWI ROYAL FLYING CORPS FUG BOOTS.
The rarest element of any Royal Flying Corps kit are the boots known as the FUG boots. These boots are upper thigh length and are completely constructed in lambs wool. The lambs wool boots are attached to a rubberised and leather shoe type base, this pair have all their original straps present, which include the straps that fold over the front of the foot, the mid calf straps and the upper Y shaped strap. There have been some repairs to the upper part of the boots and there is some present tears, the right hand boot has one tear just around the knee area measuring 14cm long and another smaller measuring 5cm, the left hand boot has one tear running from the very top of the boot, a distance of approximately 8cm, one seam has come apart in the upper part of the boot and one 12cm long tear to the skin just above the ankle section at the rear. Great care is needed in the handling of these historic items. These boots were displayed at the excellent Whitgift School 1916 Exhibition.
