GERMAN WWI PRUSSIAN ENLISTED MANS ARTILLERY PICKELHAUBE.
A beautiful field grey fitted all leather pickelhaube to a soldier in Field Artillery Regiment 44 Being an enormous size stamped ‘59’ all leather pickelhaube with a superb skull, front and back peaks without crazing or congealing and firmly attached to the body. All of the fittings, which include the back strap, non removable ball top, circular ball top base, standard Prussian front plate, front peak trim, strap fittings all match in the chemically patinated field grey finish, complete with its national and State cockades. Slight loss to the white section of the Reich cockade, complete with its 9 tongue leather liner, which shows mild evidence of wear use mainly in the forehead area but retaining excellent light tan colour. Evidence of a maker’s circular rubber ink stamp to the inner crown. Marked to the inner rear peak ‘F.A.R.44’ with a date of 1916. It would be very hard to better this enormous size helmet in its condition for a field grey issued helmet.
